Alex looked out the window of her suburban Wisconsin home. A thick, heavy rain had started to fall over the abandoned streets of her neighborhood, giving it an eerie, lifeless look. She struggled to wrap her brain around the fact that they had before been so heavily inhabited with angels, vampires, skeletons, and all other sorts of costumed children, that finding a pathway to the next house was nearly impossible.
